ESSD satellite ICU symposium — Collaborative Management of Critical Illness Dysphagia: Exploring Multisystem Interactions Through Simulation
Led by Professors: Stacey Skoretz, Eric Verin, Martin Brodsky, Peter Spronk, Rainer Dziewas
As clinical teams work to advance dysphagia care in the ICU, they face complex critical illness affecting the interplay of multiple body systems – not limited to swallowing, respiration, and cognition.
Through expert-led discussions and a rare opportunity to engage with high-fidelity patient simulation, this hands-on symposium will guide attendees through foundation sessions where they will use their knowledge during simulation and collaborative interprofessional learning.
Attendees will explore factors that contribute to dysphagia in critically ill patients and the practical strategies needed to optimize assessment, management, and patient outcomes. Through this immersive experience, participants will gain knowledge and skills to deliver evidence-informed, team-based care for some of the most complex patients with dysphagia in the ICU.
