June 22, 2026Course 9: Think Swallow: Theoretical and practical application of swallowing skill training
Think Swallow: Theoretical and Practical Application of Swallowing Skill Training is an advanced, practice-oriented programme led by Maggie-Lee Huckabee and Bonnie Martin-Harris, focusing on contemporary models of swallowing rehabilitation.
The workshop explores the shift from traditional biomechanical approaches to skill-based rehabilitation, grounded in motor learning principles and experience-dependent neural plasticity. It provides an integrated understanding of swallowing as a coordinated neurophysiological and respiratory process.
Key topics include respiratory–swallow coordination, methods for instrumental assessment and behavioural modulation, and the clinical application of sEMG biofeedback for improving swallowing function.
Through expert lectures, interactive discussions, and small-group clinical translation sessions, participants will gain practical strategies to enhance assessment and treatment approaches in dysphagia care.
