This two-day pre-congress course provides an update on dysphagia assessment and management in various paediatric dysphagia populations.

Day 1 focuses on Paediatric Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) in the morning, followed by assessment and management of dysphagia in children with tracheostomy and ventilator dependence.

Day 2 focuses on assessment and management of dysphagia in children with:

  • Neuromuscular disorders
  • Central and peripheral nervous system disorders
  • Acquired brain injury
  • Genetic syndromes including Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, 22q11 deletion syndrome, Noonan syndrome, and others.

What you will gain

    • Understand the application of Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) in infants and children and gain practical experience with the use of rating scales utilised during paediatric FEES.
    • Understand assessment and management of dysphagia and the use of speaking valves in infants and children with tracheostomy and invasive ventilation.
    • Understand assessment and management principles and evidence-based practice in children with:
      • Neuromuscular disorders
      • Central and peripheral nervous system disorders
      • Acquired brain injury
      • Genetic syndromes including Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, 22q11 deletion syndrome, Noonan syndrome, and others.

Outcome

This course will enhance your ability to assess and treat feeding difficulties and dysphagia in infants and children with a range of disorders.
